The Oteteleșanu Manor in Grădinari

Posted on

The Oteteleșanu Manor stands as a silent witness to the passage of time, its once-vibrant past now overshadowed by neglect. Situated on the outskirts of Grădinari, Giurgiu County, this neoclassical estate once served as a countryside retreat for the aristocratic Oteteleșanu family, offering them a respite from the bustle of city life. In the early 20th century, the manor was known for its elegant terraces, a meticulously maintained park, and a grand salon that played host to lavish luncheons and evening gatherings for distinguished guests. The estate was also home to an exceptional pack of greyhounds, a symbol of prestige and refinement.

Over time, the grandeur of the manor faded, giving way to new and unforeseen uses. At some point in its history, the building was repurposed as a care home for children with disabilities, a chapter that left its mark through a series of mosaics found on the ground and upper floors. Eventually, ownership changed hands due to restitution and sales, leaving the manor abandoned and exposed to the elements on the right bank of the Argeș River.

Architecturally, the Oteteleșanu Manor embodies a clean neoclassical style, both on the exterior and within its once-opulent interiors. The symmetry of the building is striking, its proportions near perfect. However, the contrast between the exposed red brick and the aggressive orange hues of its faded decoration lends it an almost surreal quality. As the author of the blog “Locuri de trecere” aptly put it, circling the manor feels akin to playing with a Rubik’s Cube, each angle revealing a new perspective on its geometric precision and decaying beauty.

Today, the manor remains an isolated relic of a bygone era, its silence broken only by the whispers of the wind and the echoes of its storied past. Despite its dilapidated state, the Oteteleșanu Manor continues to captivate those who stumble upon it, standing as a melancholic yet fascinating piece of Romania’s architectural heritage.

      1. Da, e interesant! Am fost weekend-ul trecut. E un loc pe care îl recomand pentru vizitat. Ai sa observi o fuziune interesanta a unor elemente arhitecturale, la exterior, inca pastrate. 😉

        1. Salut! Si eu as vrea sa am o vorba cu tine, acum suntem in proces de recuperare a trecutului. Iar din evolutia (sau involutia) lui fac parte si imaginile captate de voi de-a lungul anilor. Despre imagini si informatii voiam sa vorbim.
