Seliștat (or Seligstadt), a small village in Brașov County, had just 178 residents according to 2011 data. The village’s first historical mention dates back to 1206, when it was one of the earliest Saxon settlements in Transylvania, founded by settlers from the Rhine-Mosel region at the invitation of King Géza II.
Today, Seliștat is known for its fortified church, a hub for various projects and camps. Visitors can find accommodation options on www.seligstadt.ro to explore this peaceful, natural haven.
During my visit in 2016, I was captivated by the houses on the village’s outskirts. In various states of decay, they evoke a powerful connection between nature and architecture. The overgrowth, worn facades, and fading details tell stories of the past, while also hinting at the potential for future development. With growing interest in rural tourism, Seliștat holds the promise of both preserving its history and creating new opportunities for the community.
